Methodology, data sources and checks
Last updated 2026-09-30
This page explains what our numbers are based on, how we check them and where they stop being reliable. It applies to every tool on the site.
Data sources
- Pal data, breeding power and pair results: the open-source PalCalc project by Tyler Camp (MIT licence). It extracts data from the Palworld game files. Our copy is database version v28, targeting Palworld 1.0.x, fetched on 2026-09-30.
- Fixed breeding combos: the game’s own unique-combo table, as extracted by the open-source palworld-save-pal project (GPL-3.0). We use only the list of parent pairs and their results, which are game facts, and we verify them against PalCalc (below).
- Pal elements: the Palworld Wiki (CC BY-SA 4.0), through its public data tables, cross-checked against palworld-save-pal’s element data. The two sources agree on every Pal they both list, and the second fills any gap in the first.
- Element strengths and weaknesses: two independent published type charts (XGamingServer and Physgun) agree on the nine strong-against links we use. The wiki lists extra links that are not mirrored in the other direction; we left those out until they can be confirmed.
Palworld, its Pals and its game data belong to Pocketpair, Inc. We are an unofficial fan site.
How the breeding rules are checked
- Each Pal has a breeding power. Two different parents give a target of
floor((A + B + 1) / 2), and the baby is the closest Pal in the generic pool. Ties go to the higher internal priority value, then to the non-variant. - The game’s fixed-combo table gives the pairs that skip the formula. The generic pool is the set of Pals that most other pairs resolve to at each target power. Two entries (Katress and Wixen) depend on gender, so they come from PalCalc’s gender-aware records.
- Our build then re-runs the rules on all 44,851 recorded pair results. If a single result differs, the build fails and nothing is published.
Result: 183 of 299 Pals are in the generic pool, and there are 136 fixed combos (counting each gender-dependent result separately). This matches the count reported by another independent extraction (gamevault.in).
What we leave out on purpose
- Passive skill inheritance: the public model for it is a community reverse-engineering effort that its own maintainers describe as not fully verified, and it predates the 1.0 changes. We will add it when we can verify it.
- Mutation chance and Awakening (added in 1.0): we have no verified numbers.
- Element damage multipliers: published sources disagree (1.5 times on XGamingServer, 2 times on Physgun and the wiki), so we show only which element is strong or weak.
- Work speed numbers: we show work levels as stored in the game data, without converting them to speed.
- Egg hatch time and capture rates: no verified data yet.
Base values versus your Pals
Stats on this site are species base values from the game files. A Pal you own also depends on level, individual values, passive skills and other bonuses.
Updates and corrections
We rebuild the data after game patches that change Pals or breeding and record each change on the changelog. If you find a result that differs from what you see in game, contact us with the two parents and the baby you got, and we will check it against the data.
How this site is made
PalworldCalc is built and maintained by its owner with the help of AI tools for drafting code and copy. The data checks described above run automatically, and pages only state facts that come from the sources listed here. AI is not used to invent game data.
